Territory rights bill going down blazing

How come we in the ACT aren’t allowed to exercise our democratic rights that all other citizens of Australia are allowed?

The last time the Commonwealth asked the people of the ACT a question (Do you want your own government ?) two thirds of us said NO.

The Commonwealth is correct to retain veto over the anti democratically imposed assembly. Jon Stanhope’s government has exactly the same democratic legitimacy as Sadam Husein’s, i.e. none.

I support euthanasia very much but I support democracy more. The hijacking of this debate into wether people of the ACT have the right to decide for themselves is nonsence. The people of the ACT were happy with their two reps and senators.

Say what you like about euthanasia and gay marriage but don’t say it is the assemblies democratic right to impose its wishes.

Well, to be fair, the CT said on the front cover today that parliamentarians on both benches were going to oppose the bill because it was an euthanasia bill in disguise, not a bill to give the Territories more control over their powers. MA Hunter is pretty much hiding the fact that that is the case (note that she mentions the word euthanasia only once; the CT calls it the euthanasia bill.) (She is right in quoting MP Pyne, but then again he is hiding the fact that it’s an euthanasia bill in stealth.)
