An update on the Tharwa Bridge here from the ABC
“ACT police say a fire on the Tharwa bridge south of Canberra this morning was not deliberately lit.
A police spokesman says they believe the fire started as a result of restoration work done yesterday. ”
So not a deliberate act of stupidity, just an accidental act of stupidity. Lucky, for a while I thought it had been a terror attack.
This most interesting thing here is the ABC’s use of inverted commas in the tittle. Do they not believe the police spokesman? Are they suggesting there is some kind of Da Vinci Code-esque conspiracy between the AFP and a band of wondering bridge burners. Do they suspect links to the notorious Canberra hedge burners?
What kind of ‘irony’ are they trying to allude to?
