Tharwa Bridge Stage 1 is supposed to be completed this month and judging by the photos it will be a close thing.
You can see the large steel beams which have been installed under the road deck and the reinforced concrete pylons.

The trusses have been removed and replaced with a steel guardrail. The trusses will be refurbished and added back later.

But will it be ugly?

; )

WOOHOOO The bridge is opening at 10:00 Thursday 28 September………

LOL – I reckon the trusses will go back – they do need to keep the historical look to keep it historical!!! :-p

Can’t wait to be able to drive on it again! I’m sure the town of Tharwa will be relieved also!

It’s a bloody scam is what it is. This is basically building a new bridge using the existing pylons, that way they won’t incur the cost of a whole new bridge or the wrath of people wanting the old bridge retained for heritage value. I bet we’ll never see the wooden trusses again, unless they serve a structural purpose they serve only as an ongoing and expensive termite trap.

Yes, my magnifying glass had to be pulled out.

Unfortunately the images haven’t been given the appropriate amount of linky-dinky.
