The ACT Rural Fire Service Tidbinbilla Brigade will tonight, Tuesday 15 January, 2013, weather permitting, assist a private landholder with a hazard reduction burn at the property “Miowera”, Tidbinbilla Road, Tharwa.

The burn will commence from 7pm to 11pm.

One heavy tanker, one medium tanker, one command vehicle and eight personnel will conduct the burn of approximately one to two hectares in size.

The ACT Handy Map grid reference for the burn is I15.

The purpose of the burn is to remove a fuel hazard.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.

According to the health directorate:

“The ACT Government purchased ‘Miowera’ (block 241 Paddy’s River Road) on the private market using a combination of Commonwealth and Territory funds. Miowera is a working farm on the outskirts of Canberra, west of Tharwa.”

The ACT government owns Miowera. Unusual to describe the government as a ‘private landholder’.

Doesn’t the ACT Government own everything in Canberra?

Warming up and a bit windy… Is it really the most intelligent time to do this?

Surely this chap has had all winter to burn?
