That Pizza Place Times Square. $10 lunch review

that pizza place pizza

OK, I’ll admit it. When it comes to what I like in pizza, I’m a caveman.

I don’t want goat’s cheese and morrocan lamb. I don’t want a papadam. I don’t even want BBQ sauce. I do not want a bunch of dried up ingredients balanced on top of a dry crust.

I want a thinnish base, still slightly slick on the top, with a thick tomato paste, a crispy layer of cheese, and a small number of toppings.

I can eat your new age pizzas no problem, enjoy them even. But when I want pizza I yearn for the simpler days of my childhood.

Which is pretty much what “That Pizza Place” on London Circuit is offering.

At $4.50 a slice I went for two pieces of the “Times Square” which is basically an old school pepperoni.

Really I’d have been fine with a sub $5 lunch review. One slice was plenty.

On walking into the store one is confronted by a row of very large pizzas already made. Decide which one you want and a slice gets put onto a toaster oven conveyer belt, when it comes out the other end it goes on a paper plate and into a paper bag.

It’s quick, hot, tasty, old school pizza.

(For more sub $10 lunches in Civic check the tag, if you’ve got recommendations let me know.)

Last time I was there a few weeks ago slices were $4! I find them quite yummy and good value for money, one slice is enough really. They’re quite oily/greasy though.

Simple pizza done well is the best sort there is.

Spend some time in NYC and you’ll agree.

Are you suggesting that because they are callled Times Square and Manhattan they are in that class?

I have spent time in NYC (some really good pizza places especially in Brooklyn) and Italy and those slices are not up there in my opinion.

I’m not suggesting for a second that the pizza shown here is in the same class as good neighbourhood pizza from New York. I’ve also spent time there, and understand what you mean. My orginal comment was simply that good pizza well done is the way to go.

The last proper pizza I had was from a small pizza shop at 38th and 7th Ave in Manhattan last year. I still get hungry from the memories!

🙂

Dunno about old school but that looks like a lot of overcooked cheese with one slice of pepperoni on it.

The pepperoni is under the cheese, where it’s meant to be!

Not with you on that one but the lunch reviews are a great initiative.

awful name – should boycott on that ground alone…

These guys serve up a slices of sinful cheesy indulgence, but I couldn’t do it more than once a week. Manhattan for mine.
