The Australia Day Fireworks 2009

It’s always a problem trying to take pics of fireworks. You don’t know how much of the frame they will take up or even when the next one will appear. You just open the shutter and hope for the best.

Absolutely amazing Anthony!!!

Watched them from the bottom end of ANZAC Pde.
No crowds, no traffic jams, no over-load bands.
Crowds seemed a bit thin even over at Regatta Point (from what we could see from where we were) compared to previous years, but i may be comparing it with the Skyfire turnouts, which may not be on a Canberra-emptying long weekend…

Right in the middle of everything at our location, we had the rubber-necking thing happening big time. 4yo summed it up well: “I need 4 heads!”

Good display, although the shots from the Carillon petered away for the second half, the types of shots overall tended to be a bit limited and repetitive, and the colours a little limited compared to what we’ve been seeing in recent years.

Enjoyable end to the long weekend for all.

Tried a new strategy this year. Left home at 8:50 and watched from Commonwealth Avenue. Managed to turn off and get home before any traffic jams ensued. It was great.

I couldn’t work out what the booming was for a while… and I’m 30 kms away. Nice shot.

We were at reconciliation place, and that was a great, right in the middle of it all, didn’t know where to look.

+1 to swaggie on the NYE effort comment, Australia Day was heaps better.

Wheras I reckon they should have extended it all the way to the other bridge(Kings Bridge), the high court…

The Fireworks were sensational last year and reached the same high standard this year – so much better that the NYE efforts, the kids loves them whereas the NYE ones were kinda “is that it?” The Carillion seems to be a little too far away to use as part of the display but other than that full marks to the Organisers. The Red Berets were a bit special given the conditions they encountered with the wind and Leo Sayer gave a bit of a performance beforehand – loved his infectious enthusiasm (can you believe he’s 60?) but Dodson mumbled incoherently when asked what he was hoping to achieve, bit of a let down. The band before Leo were top grade (Sound of Soul???) and all in all it was a top evening’s entertainment.
