Simon Corbell is sharing with Canbrerra last year’s most popular baby names.
In 1913, Kathleen and Henry were the most popular names for newborns in the ACT but almost 100 years on Charlotte and Jack have taken the top spot in 2012, Attorney-General Simon Corbell, has announced today.
“In celebrating our Centenary in 2013, we see that traditional names such as Grace, William and Ruby continue to be popular amongst new parents,” Mr Corbell said.
“William, in particular, continues to be a popular name – having appeared in the top 10 lists many times, including 1913, 1923, 1950 and every year since 2001.
At the end of 2012, there were a total of 2,726 birth registrations for girls and 2,900 birth registrations for boys, compared with 2,484 birth registrations for girls and 2,757 birth registrations for boys at the same time 2011.
“In 2012, Emily, Sophie, Amelia, Chloe and Grace made it to the top 10 girl’s names, and Ruby, Mia and Lily appeared again after being included in the 2010 list.
“Most of the top 10 boys names for 2012 also appeared in 2011, such as Oliver, William, James, Lachlan, Thomas, Ethan and Benjamin, with Jack, Lucas and Samuel added to the list in 2011.
“Both Charlotte and Jack appeared in the top 10 in 2011, increasing their popularity to reach the top spot in 2012.”
Simon also reports the nappy valleys are Kambah (oversized suburb skew again one suspects) Ngunnawal, Macgregor, Dunlop and Wanniassa.
