The Battle of Queanbeyan

Something about this seems iffy, I was at Walshes and whilst I saw one guy removed by the police, I didn’t see any fight. If it happened earlier this would make sense as we were out the back, however we left (through the front door) at 6?? Also, this wasn’t reported in the Queanbeyan Age, which I would suggest would be pretty big news if Monaro st had been closed off?

Rough in the 80’s -yes..But still had some of the best times there..Especially State of Origin nights, the atmosphere was brilliant, even though a NSW loss usually triggered the biffo…

Yep, the 1980s was certainly a fun decade. I was a drinker at Walsh’s on Sunday afternoons and we had some great times. In addition to the brawl which happened in the wake of the Raiders’ premiership win, there was also an abduction and shooting incident the previous year linked to Walsh’s and players from one of the local rugby league teams (Diggers? Abattoirs?). Quangers was certainly a rough town back then before gentrification. It was great.

A brawl at Walsh’s Hotel? But the patrons of that establishment are always so high-brow and cultured, never drinking to excess and always on their best behaviour. There must be some mistake, surely?
