Mary has sent in this picture of the famed Belconnen Red Bridge being removed.

A real icon departing.

the bridge has been taken for storage at the ACT Govt depot in Fyshwick — not sure how/if it will be re-used in some form somewhere else

I bet its mangled corpse will reappear in a public space or by a major road soon as a piece of “art”.

Are there plans to replace it with a new walkway? Seems a bit of a business loss given all the workers who now have a longer walk to the Mall.

I doubt it. The idea is for people to walk past the new shops, and hopefully spend some money. It may be a longer walk for workers, but we all know they’ll still come into the mall for lunch.

Haha! The red bridge is running over a red light!

Are there plans to replace it with a new walkway? Seems a bit of a business loss given all the workers who now have a longer walk to the Mall.

[Can we stay away from the “lazy office workers – longer walk would be good for them” trope]

Disclaimer: I don’t work at the Chan St office block shown in the photos but have to visit there a bit so know how beneficial that bridge was.
