… a 6 piece high energy funk band who will be in Canberra right after playing at the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival.

It is my job to book them in to the best place possible, but I’m not sure where to start.

Where do you think is the best live venue in Canberra for a band like this?

BTW- it will probably be a Sunday afternoon/evening gig.

I’d appreciate any tips you might have:)

I also think one of the uni bars would be good. ANU’s bar is a good size and is accessible. I haven’t been to many of the other venues mentioned, but ANU is a commonly used bar for bands coming through with a one gig only and so forth.

good golly, miss – thanks for the link. some neat sounds – not sure i’d classify them as ‘high energy funk’, but. go check out some old skunkhour or the like for high energy aussie funk. neo seem like a good funky blues gig, but. can see they’ll go down a treat at the b-b-blues fez. still rekkun one of the unis might be the go.
😉

Definitely Transit.

You could contact Jim Boots at the Canberra Musicians Club – ourcmc(at)gmail(dot)com about getting the gig hosted.

Basement, or Pot Belly, if you want something northside. Depends on the night you’d be doing it and whether there’d be any local fan base for the band ie space required.

Having said that, these venues are generally closed on Sundays

They’re all really great ideas! Even the dog kennel idea :)) Thank you very much.

Here’s a link to their site, and one of my fav songs http://www.theneo.com/Busblues.html

Could you imagine the dogs enjoying this kind of thing;)

I’ll be back on to let you know how it goes. Thanks again

Rose Cottage Inn has outdoor band sunday afternoons

Tilley’s would probably be your best bet, tilleys.com.au

There are low-energy funk bands?

The George Harcourt Inn occasionally do Sunday Evening gigs.

http://www.outincanberra.com.au/thegeorge – “The George has brought back great live and local music every Thursday night, and throughout the next few months there will be international and local acts playing on some Saturday and Sunday evenings and nights”

Any links to the bands music etc?

The Transit Bar will sometimes open up specially on a Sunday arvo if the band are any good.

have you thought about the anu or ucan bar? or the southern cross club?

I have just realised that I’ve made a very funny balls up! I don’t think that Reedy Creek Kennels would be a good venue for the band in question, neither do I believe that the band has any canine characteristics. I actually meant to post the comment in the “next door” post, which is relavent to boarding kennels!!! Ooooops!

The Maram

ROFLMAO @ #1 – Posted in the wrong spot, but strangely appropriate.

You could try the Phoenix Bar http://www.lovethephoenix.com think it would fit in pretty well there.

They have had some pretty good Sunday gigs in the last couple of months though not sure how much they would pay.

The Reedy Creek kennels at Doughboy (about 20k’s West of Braidwood) have always done a fine job of caring for our mutts. It’s very clean and friendly.
