Catallaxy is agog at some of the positions being advertised in the ACT Public Service:

Tony brought to my attention three related advertisements in The Australian today for senior positions in The Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate in the ACT Government. Is the Chief Minister trying to jump the shark or something?

AND DON’T FORGET, THE ACT IS EFFECTIVELY A LOCAL GOVERNMENT!

The three positions are:

— Deputy Director-General, Policy, Corporate and Regulation, salary range: $278,633 to $294,793;
— Deputy Director-General, Planning Policy, salary range: $278,633 to $294,793;
— Executive Director, Policy, salary range: $219,150 to $231,587.

I wonder what the Director-General gets?

A bit much or fair enough?

Three people costing $1,000,000 (with perks) and recent pay increase? Is this really money well spent at a time when the ACT Government is handing out redundancies and cutting back on services to its community?

From my brief experience, the acting Dep Director General of Planning is very good. Worth every cent.

Not sure about the others … I guess that’s why their jobs are being advertised.

According to the ESDD Organisation Chart these positions already exist. It would appear that the positions are being upgraded. The incumbents will most probably have to apply for their upgraded positions. Mastering the P & D Act that is becoming incredibly complex with DV 306 and negotiating with the development lobby would be amongst skills needed. Must also be able to motivate staff to process DAs quicker and perform well at ACAT. Will advise CPE & minister and appear at ACT LA Planning committee.
The resources could have been better spent on more compliance worker bees & DA assessors..

Usually you can get information on current exec pay rates throught the Remuneration tribunal at http://www.cmd.act.gov.au/governance/remtrib but today it won’t work. These are probably band 3 senior exec or high band 2

They need to divert those crazy salaries into some IT contractors to go and build the Govt. some sort of business continuity capability. A whole weekend outage – what the?

The website you are attempting to reach is currently unavailable.

The ACT Government data centre is currently undergoing bi-annual maintenance on its facilities.

Outages will occur from 13:00 AEDT Saturday 24 March 2012 and
services are expected to be available again from 18:00 Sunday 25 March 2012.

Complete outages will occur on some ACT Government websites during the above period.

Looks like pretty standard pay for that level. To be honest, you’d be better off fretting about the fat rump of under-performing low level douchbags on $70-100k. That’s where the waste is.

The price we are paying to kowtow to the green lobby. The ACT now has 25,000 public servants. Before self government it only took 900 public servants to run Canberra.

Plus the teachers, ambulance, firemen, nurses, police and so on

Wow, I will have worked with some of these people back in my planning days, no way are most of these air thieves, knob jockeys and retards worth half that amount !!!!! If it wasn’t for their obviously superior networking skills, most of them would be out on the street with a blanket and a cardboard sign.

That job sounds very “direct action” to me. Does Combet know our evil money wasting plans?

That’s retarded. There is no pressure to perform or any consequences for not performing in these roles. It’s not like they’re running a listed company or something, it’s a local shire.

The sad part is, if ACT govco could deliver projects and do their actual job, I probably wouldn’t begrudge the pay. But they don’t, so I do.

“AND DON’T FORGET, THE ACT IS EFFECTIVELY A LOCAL GOVERNMENT!”

Wrong. The ACT has state and local level functions.
