The ACT Government is reminding everyone that the stupid analog TV signal in Canberra will finally die its well deserved death on 5 June.

Which means the digital signal can finally be turned up to full power and marginal reception for all the wonderful channels will improve.

If you don’t yet have digital TV reception you’ve got a week to get it sorted.

I picked up a $400 Sanyo 40 incher at Dick Smith last weekend so treat yourself to a well deserved upgrade. Great and big TVs are now very cheap and light.

I’d love to know the exact time Analog is been switched off, I will then insure I have my old analog TV turned on (almost like turning off an era)…

Yes I know small things amuse small minds… 🙂

As an owner of a *massive* Sony CRT (it weighs 90-odd kgs) that still provides a fantastic picture, I availed myself of a digital STB (a TiVo, actually) many years ago.

Don’t throw away your working analog TV just yet……they still have their uses if they have RCA ports to plug the STB into

In the US Google had a plan to buy out the old analogue bandwith and use it to provide free (presumable ad-sponsored) internet, eventually they lost their 5 billion dollar bid. How would rioters feel about that plan being revived here?

It should have happened years ago. TV reception is not a human right. I totally support the government trying to make sure the elderly (and other isolated people) were given every chance (and even some help) to get the new technology, but seriously, if they had turned it off a couple of years ago, people would have either figured it out pretty quick, or been better off without it.

Cue the calls for it to be turned back on ’cause the mullys don’t get ACA and 2D2N anymore.

The analog TV switchoff. The event that will launch a thousand YouTube videos …
