The Australian has the news that former Canberra Raiders great Glenn Lazarus is running for a Queensland Senate seat as part of Clive Palmer’s team:

Billionaire Clive Palmer unveiled his party’s federal senate candidates in Brisbane today.

Lazarus, 47, the only player to win a rugby league premiership with three different clubs, will lead the team.

He played for the Canberra Raiders, the Brisbane Broncos and the Melbourne Storm, winning five premierships. Lazarus also represented NSW and Australia.

Interesting times.

Correction: “Oh, I’m buggered, I’m sorry.” (Is what Meninga said on ABC Radio.)

Hopfeully his political career lasts longer than that of his former team mate, big Mal.

Well he made it through the launch from what I heard without saying I”ve f**ked it all up” so it bodes well so far.

Are you confusing Lazarus with fellow ex-Raiders prop Sam Backo who dropped the f-bomb during a post state of origin interview?

Well he’ll fit in rather nicely with all those big boofy blokes!

Risen from the grave again has he?

Hopfeully his political career lasts longer than that of his former team mate, big Mal.
