The Buchanan Dismissal

In the wake of prison supremo Doug Buchanan being bundled out of the ACT as fast as possible the Liberal’s Jeremy Hanson is asking unkind questions about just what on earth is going on.

The Greens have refused to support a Canberra Liberals motion that would see the open and transparent investigation into the removal of the AMC Superintendent, Doug Buchanan.

“Once again, we are seeing the Greens rushing to cover up for their coalition partners,” Shadow Minister for Corrections, Jeremy Hanson stated today.

“I introduced a motion today to give the former Superintendent a voice,” Mr Hanson said. “The Justice and Community Safety Committee would have provided a suitable outlet for Mr Buchanan to put his case forward as well as thoroughly investigate his removal.

Superintendent Doug Buchanan’s tenure at the ACT jail was terminated before any formal investigation processes were carried out. Corrections Minister Simon Corbell stated that the departure was voluntary, but Mr Buchanan stated publicly that his position was involuntarily terminated.

Apparently Mr Buchanan is claiming his opposition to the Needle Syringe Program lead to machinations against him.

What a joke. Of course there should be an enquiry somewhere.

Perhaps it’s time for ACT version of ICAC.
