The Canberra Indie scene of yesteryear

The ABC have placed online their retrospective of the Canberra Indie scene of the 70s and 80s.

When Jim Trail and I, who spent much of our youths watching, recording and writing about these and many other bands, came together with producer Mel Sim on Sunday, it was almost as if the decades had evaporated – from sitting down and talking to Juliet Ward about the Lighthouse Keepers mysterious and beautiful breakout song, gargoyle, to hearing Cathy Green (from cough cough) discussing rehearals in the underpass leading from parks way into Commonwealth Park.

They were just two of host of memories we had barely two hours to skate over in a time in the nation’s capital that was as vibrant and as diverse as any, and with any luck you too will have a chance to trawl through and listen back to some songs, dip into conversations and reminiscences, and maybe even unveil the odd undiscovered country.

Worth a listen.
