The centenary riesling hits glass

johnboy 17 November 2008 6

Chief Minister Stanhope has proudly announced the bottling of the special edition Centenary of Canberra Riesling.

A great deal of effort has gone into selecting some of the best vintage grapes from wineries across the region to develop a great wine to mark 100 years since the Canberra-Yass district was selected as the site for the new Federal Capital.

Now bottled they can start entering the plonk in competitions.

For the rest of us we’ll have to wait for the centenary in 2013 to get our hands on centenary riesling and shiraz.

If it can burn it can be smoked, radonehz. We are supposed to party for most of 2013 so some herbal assistance might help us to mellow out.

Alternatively, we could have one of the tobacco producing regions (Tanzania, Malawi or Victoria) gift us with tobacco seeds or seedlings so we can go with the more traditional smoke. A large plantation nestled near the cork tree plantation would do nicely.

More on point, I am hoping the only reason Our Beloved Leader has not announced funding for the Centenary of Canberra Beer is because it doesn’t need to be aged in vats for years?

If it is to be from locally sourced ingredients, it would need to be . . . errrrr . . . ‘herbal’.

Ahem… I am not sure what you are talking about, poptop? I didn’t realise that basil or thyme could be turned into cigars??
