ACT Health’s website has announced it’s commenced operations of the Chronic Disease Telephone Coaching Service.

The Chronic Disease Telephone Coaching Service is a telephone based support service provided free of charge by ACT Health. The program will help people with chronic diseases improve their ability to self manage their condition.

This leads to improved quality of life and reducing the incidence of exacerbation and progression of their disease.

Those wanting to access the service will need to badger their GP for a referral.

As I have a number of chronic illnesses, it would be nice to be able to talk to some-one who understands and can give me support in managing those illnesses.

Having to “harass my doctor” for a referal doesn’t sound nearly as pleasant though I concur with the sentiment expressed.

Finding a doctor in the modern world who has the time to care and the time to listen is rare indeed. I’ve just found out that they have prescribed conflicting medications that are making life more difficult for me rather than better. And that some of the things that have been put down to “stress” are actually side effects of the new medication.

I understand about doctors being chased from pillar to post trying to keep up with increased demand from greater population and fewer doctors per head of population but really, shouldn’t there be some computer program that could check a medication list against a new medication and flag contra-indications for the doctor?

Ah well, we can but try. I’ll go hound the GP for a referall to this serbvice.

The headline made me think of people brushing up on symptoms (over the phone) before going in to get a doc to sign off on their compo claim….

hmm I’d like to be coached for chronic heart failure, that doesn’t sound pretty.
