The city that ate a truck

By Thumper - 18 July 2008 21

Just in, sketchy reports that a truck has been swallowed up by the ground on Horsepark Drive near the Federal Highway. Apparently all that is sticking out of the ground is the back of the trailer and the area has been cordoned off.

Nothing online yet, and I’m only getting second hand reports.

Anyone out that way have anything to add?

[ED – unrelated to yesterday’s truck crash?]

What’s Your opinion?

Damn, that sounds very nasty indeed. Sounds like she’s going to be OK though? What rotten luck.

Hope she’s okay man…

RE the accident on Horse Park Drive yesterday, it was a friend of mine in the ute. She phoned me from hospital last night. She was a bit sketchy on the details as she probably blacked out but apparently the truck driver swerved to miss another vehicle and got her instead. Her ute is a write off, front end ripped off. Somehow she managed to come out with bruising and concussion but no broken bones or major injuries. She thinks the truckie was injured but didn’t know any details.

What was funny was listening to the truckies bag out the drivers of car transporters, for some reason they are not well liked??!!!

I am with them for that, driving behind a transporter on the hay plain, wasn’t overtaking as I wasn’t in a great rush, one of the ramps detached from the back of the truck and joined my engine.

took about 2 hours for someone to come to my aid, no mobile phone (back then) and I had to wait for the local trowing service to come and get the car. not happy at all. The cause of the accident had left the scene, oblivious of the damage caused behind him. I did remember his number plate and gave it to the police…. no idea what happened to him. I do know that the insurance company was chasing his to get paid.

I was driving down to Melbourne last night… listening to the truckies on the CB, there was some sort of truck crash near Mittagong, apparantly a car transporter had gone into the wall and was blocking the soutbound lanes on the Hume. Which was causing concern from the Northbounders heading to Tarcutta for changeover, in that their changeover rig and driver was going to be very late 🙂

Just asked a mate and he said that it was a truck with trailer/dog on the back carrying a full load of dirt, apparently he swerved to avoid a hilux and hit the ditch on the side. Dont know how accurate this is though…

Ahh, it was a Hilux, if only it was an Excel with its rear foglight on, and with frangipani stickers on the back window, he could have driven straight over it.

Truck you Canberra.

PBO – Thumper’s version of the story sounded much better!

Trucking hell?

A work colleague drove past it this morning. He said it was too dark to see much at that hour, but the truck was well off the road.

Edward, I may call you that?

No idea about a truck crash yesterday, but it’s quite possible.

Cheers
