The Civic Massif

Yesterday the ABC warned that unless more office space was built real-soon-now Government departments would be forced to move out of Canberra.

The reason for that piece of media management becomes obvious in today’s Canberra Times with a story [Link fixed] revelling in the headline: Revealed: Greater Civic Massive space unlocked. I suspect there’s some punctuation lost in translation to the web, but I like the idea of the Civic Massif so we’re going to go with that.

The NCA is apparently poised to unveil “A staggering two million square metres of floor space – nearly three times the size of Civic and equivalent to six Manukas” to be built from City Hill down to the lake.

I refuse to work in Civic, because of the parking costs. Used to park at the Rex, too! The walk wasn’t bad. Building more office space, whoop dee doo. If they’re gouging $10 and up for parking, they’ll want to pay a bit more.

This just in – Old beasley and bruce site on Mort street is being demolished and a multi storey office being built there. How do I know – Its going to be my office – cutting the walk from the rex by 75% – oh well – means I have to do an extra 10 minutes on the (stationary and non recumbant) exercise bike now.
