The Corin forest bobsled with no brakes

johnboy 7 October 2008 40

A YouTuber going by the name “TV4Jesus” has posted video of a brake free run down the Corin Forest Alpine slide.

A braver man than I.

I have been for a tandem hang-glide. It was awesome, although oddly my brain found it scarier then skydiving.

Both are two more expensive sports I would love to take up, but can’t afford.

Anyone been hangliding? I’m seriously considering taking it up, and apparently it’s life-changing.

White Rocks in Qbn – SES do their vertical rescue training there.

Some googling shows some maps, and there is pretty much the one guide book for Canberra “The Canberra Granite Guide”. What sort of grades, walk in, etc will dictate where you wanna go.

Whose? Whom? Wheretofore?

Ah Skid, the ID change was simply like many others – forgot logon details and the old RA was kind of hard to recover those from. Jazz subsequently sorted it all out for me though.

Note my words above where I referred to “paper wasps”? In that post some months back I did acknowledge my mistake in confusing the two species.

For ordinary paper wasps I stand by the method as the easiest and safest method of dispatches those blighters. It is also extremely satisfying, as one generally finds one of those nests by dint of having been stung by one of them – which is not fun.

I am assured however, that for European wasps (which I have never encountered) the primary solution is bolting for the nearest phone.

This attention from you is getting a bit freaky though…did I correct your grammer or something?

Meanwhile, haven’t heard from anyone about good climbing sites yet.

We are the most happening community council on the face of Canberra, Skid!

: )

This is the first time I have heard of GA using the phrase ‘pussies’ when not urging people to set fire to wasps.
(But I haven’t ever bothered to read a GCC meeting transcript or a DEEWR Tender document, so he might talk like that all the time.)

Keep up the good form. 😛

Sorry, I stand corrected.
Gungahlin Al (under the guise of Al, later as Gungahlin Al) has only ever advocated attacking wasps nests with flaming spray cans, not engaging in direct fisticuffs.
That was someone else.

But aerosols vs European wasps is still a bad idea, and having someone call people ‘pussies’ for not doing it makes me laugh.

Did the paragliding at Queenstown….great fun until the air traffic controllers told us to get out of the flight path over the lake.

Did the tandem jump at Woolongong (over the beach)….the biggest blast I’ve ever experienced…the freefall from 14,000 feet is the longest 45 seconds of your life, the four or five minutes under the parachute pales by comparison.

100 things to do before you die….tick, tick

Do you want me to fix ’em fer yer, boss?

I do so love it when Gungahlin Al shows some personality.

Don’t think I ever said anything about punching European wasp nests…
Flaming paper wasps sure.

Snow boarding supplies my current adrenalin fix (if you don’t include mixing it up with the government in meetings and the media).

But what I’d really like to be doing is getting back on some cliffs. So where can we go to get back into some medium-grade rockclimbing, and get the kids up some climbs before they get old enough to be scared?

I go to Sydney skydivers near Picton. You can make a weekend of it, skydive early Saturday morning, then drive around the southern highlands checking out the buildings, cafes, places of interest, etc.

They use a plane that is somewhat akin to an econovan with wings and you just jump out the back. Generally you jump from 13,000 feet which will give you about 60 seconds of free fall.

You’ll love it man 😉

Oh, there is a mob who jump onto the mint ovals byt they use a smaller aircraft and jump from a lower height, this less freefall. Not that it really matters.

Advocating the punching of european wasps nests, telling people they’re “weak as piss” for not doing it… Calling everyone pussies for not skydiving…

I realise I’m about to bite the bullet and do a “where is the best local…”

But can anyone recommend a local and reasonably skydiving place which won’t result in me breaking my spine?

Now let’s hear from everyone about how he is obviously being unsafe and wah wah what about the speed limit and wah wah where are the crash barriers and the flashing signs and wah wah why isn’t there a bike lane…

It IS Canberra!

Thumper Thumper 10:35 am 08 Oct 08

I agree, pussies.

Skydiving is an absolute rush!!!!

justbands justbands 10:33 am 08 Oct 08

> Go skydiving and see what a real rush is like!

I’d love to! Will one day for sure.
