Mayor Rattenbury has announced the Cotter Reserve is opening again for camping on 1 December.

“Canberrans have been travelling to the Cotter Reserve since 1908. It is Canberra’s original recreation area and remains a popular destination for picnickers, families and tourists,” Mr Rattenbury said.

“The Cotter Campground, which is situated at the junction of the Cotter and Murrumbidgee Rivers, offers campers a fantastic location with access to some of the ACT’s best walks including the newly opened Cotter Dam Discovery Walk.

“Campers can also fish or swim in the Cotter and Murrumbidgee Rivers or take a drive on Tourist Drive 5 to visit the Tidbinbilla Space Tracking Station, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Namadgi National Park.

“The campground has separate areas for campers, vans, small private parties and organised groups. The site has toilets, showers, wash-up facilities and free electric and wood barbeques.

“The reopening of Cotter Campground is another step towards the revitalisation of the Cotter precinct associated with the Enlarged Cotter Dam project,” Mr Rattenbury said.

Visitors should note that they will need to bring their own firewood, there are no powered sites or sewage available for caravans and no pets are allowed. The maximum length of stay is up to two weeks. Bookings are not required.

I just can’t see the attraction of camping there with so many clowns much the same as going to batemans gay

If you have little kids then it’s a safe, convenient and pleasant place to introduce them to the the whole camping thing while having amenities nearby, and being not too far at all from civilisation in case things turn pear shaped.

I’m glad to hear it’s open again, and I’ll be heading our there with the grommets over Christmas.
