The Beast is Tweeting about the loss of all TV in Canberra:

All FM radio, and TV analog and digital services, appear to be down in Canberra. @666Canberra ok as on the AM band. Techs working on it.

Anyone else noticed anything?

UPDATE: at 1.15am service appeared to be restored.

I was enjoying a re-watch of a Clint Eastwood film, one of those ones with the monkey and lots of fist-fighting. Our power grid was unaffected so there was no warning that Telstra Tower was in straits. I did not, however, consider the prospect that we had been EMP’d.

Natures way of turning off bad TV like Water World.

was watching waterworld,,,,seen it blink and go out,,,,changed channels seen there was nothing,,heard the thunder…

I wanted to watch the end of Waterworld, I’ve seen the beginning of that movie a million times but never the end, guess it’s just not meant to be.

I was staying with a friend last night. They have a Unninterrupted Power Supply powering their TV and computer. It activated for a few seconds then the TV went dead. Both of us know a lot about thermonuclear warfare and the effects of electromagnetic weapons so we kind of freaked then started checking if we could start up computers and if our watches were still working. It was a tense few minutes till we concluded that we had not been the victims of a nuclear attack. It was pretty worrying because not only were we unable to pick up any TV channels but outside we could see flashes of light in the night sky but were hearing no thunder.
Yes folks, this is what happens when geeks get deprived of TV. Eventually we concluded that lightning must have hit the local transmitter. We felt a little relived and decided that all was okay in the world again. It was a bit freaky though as it happened just before midnight so we were expecting to be invaded any moment.

lol oops me, I should’ve come here first. I didn’t know we lost TV stations as well. It was pretty pathetic offerings anyhow, thus why I was putting up with the one small loop they call the party mix. I was hopeful you see because the night before (the cold mix I think) was a little fantastic from what I heard.

The commercial FM stations were down – well 104 and 106 anyway

No great loss IMO.

Doozy of a storm tho!!

Storms… lol

The commercial FM stations were down – well 104 and 106 anyway – that was some storm around 1am!

ABC, SBS and Prime are back.

Ah, when the channels all went out I just thought my TV had gone bust and didn’t bother checking again. Still nothing on TV or the radio right now. Freaky.

Ignore all the nonsense about it being the end of the world. It’s a year too early for that.

Lost power in parts of civic at about the same time as the stations died.
Though power was back within 5 minutes.

Frustrated – I’m so with you. I was looking forward to dagging out with countdown and a few coopers pale ales and then taping the Kinks concert scheduled for 4am. Instead I’m just watching one (1 of many) of the old Rage tapes I have. It’s not the same though.

Yep, out in Amaroo too. Just woke to very freaked out dog with the storms rolling in.

I turned off the Wii to watch That 70s show and nothing! I thought my tv was broken 😛
I remember this happening a few years ago, when a switch or something burnt out BMT.

I was looking forward to taping the Retro stuff on RAGE tonight, same thing I do every January since about 1993.

Pissed off bigtime.

aahhhh so it isnt just me..

I can still get ‘Raw FM’ on FM 87.6

We noticed the TV went down about half an hour ago. Weirded us out a bit as all channels are down. There is a storm coming this way though and we experienced a quick brownout, so we guessed that was the cause.
