The duelling Ferraris of Northbourne

Gungahlin Al sent in this pic with the following note:

Not something you see every day.

This Ferrari and a same model black one had a short race against each other on Northbourne last night.

The place echoed with the sound of them both howling away from the lights side by side and up one block. The black one peeled off before being stopped.

Yup, we have been brainwashed into thinking that if you speed the world will implode when in reality a 40km/h accident will just as likely kill you as a 140km/h accident.

And pulling ‘facts’ from your bum doesn’t count.

True! I was in a 100 kmh + head on crash whilst driving a GT falcon (74 Model) when i hit a Suzuki Sierra who failed to give way to me….though I was obviously speeding.

I and my passenger walked away, the other bloke however took a flying lesson through his windscreen yet was able to walk away after removing the glass from his attire.

74 model falcons are not modern cars, no air bags, no ABS, just 2 tonnes of steel heading down the rubber road to freeeeedom! I sure did strike the iron roadworthy on that little suzi but no serious injuries and no-one died!, He would have been going 60 kmh, I was going at least 100 kmh, so you do the maths and figure out how in gods name we all walked away?

Once again Captain RAAF you openly admit you are an idiot and shouldn’t be behind the wheel of anything faster than a chocolate wheel. I won’t even ask how on earth you had a head on collision with a car coming at you not giving way at 60km/h. A 1974 falcon doesn’t weigh 2tonnes, more like 1390kg – not much more than a modern Corolla. Old shitboxes like 1974 Falcons are likely to fare really badly in accidents with newer cars of similar mass. How badly, well take a look at this clip of an old Cadillac and a relatively new one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-WYKYrq5FI

I get the feeling CaptainRAAF that your driving is so crap that these repeat drink drivers referred to in RiotACT are a safer bet than you.

Ummmm, what is a radar lock and how does one get a permit for it?

Join Cams. We use it for precise speed readings when racing and for a sort of do it yourself car speed ajustor for following pace cars. Hence radar lock. You ‘lock’ on to the car in front and let it do the driving via the cruise control. Also handy for getting a read out of the speed of cars you are overtaking and that are overtaking you. Very useful on a race track. Which is the only place I ever exceed the otherwise signed speed limits found on public roads.

Lol you are kidding right? … what a waste of time

I hold a National level CAMS licence, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen such wankery

Obviously you haven’t been reading in a while. This type of wankery occurs regularly (hence the Mully cup/Flame of the week etc).

Video or it didn’t happen. Then let the peanut gallery decide whether they were driving dangerously or you are just a tosser with calibrated eyeballs.

If you were looking at 3 speedo’s simultaneously it’s completely understandable that you lost focus of the road and cut the Ferrari off.

This obsession with speed is nuts. Here we have a clear example of a person driving at the speed limit and yet still nearly having an accident.

Vehicle occupant protection is really only to reduce the number of major injuries & fatalities in minor accidents. Two cars in a head on at 100km/h each will be toast no matter what. Car amnufacturers are working on it though.

I had no choice but to merge into it’s side and force it on to the wrong side of the road.

To cross the dotted line when a car is beside you (as stated above) is illegal.

This in no way detracts from the fact that the Ferrari was speeding, however the speed of the Ferrari does not make the above maneuver more legal in any way, in fact, if there had been an accident in which TUS contacted the Ferrari as a result of merging whilst beside the Ferrari, the accident would likely be found fault to TUS, however the Ferrari driver would also cop some hefty penalties for dangerous driving occasioning a collision.

You slow down in the left lane of an overtaking section of road and are subsequently surprised when you get overtaken? I’m not surprised people kept trying to get past you if you weren’t doing the speed limit. How were they to know you were going to speed up again? I suppose your speedo is also calibrated to be 100% accurate? Please do provide the video, should make for entertaining viewing.

You’re pretty imaginative mate. Did I at all say I was surprised people were overtaking me? Not at all, I expected them to overtake me. I didn’t expect them to overtake me when I was already in the right hand lane. I entered that lane doing 100 km/h with the nearest car at least 100 metres behind me. If I had of slowed down then they just would have rear ended me. I was surprised that despite the right hand tires of my car being in the right hand lane, all three cars kept coming and all three overtook me including the last idiot who ended up overtaking me on the wrong side of the road, against double lines.

And yes, my speedo has been calibrated and is 100% +/- 0.5% accurate. My GPS also showed I was doing 100 km/h as did my radar lock. So yeah, I had 3 devices showing I was doing 100 km/h when I was overtaken. And before you get uppity about the legalaties of radar locks, I have a permit for it.

Once again, I have a clear concious over this.

Well, you were not very clear in your first post hence the flamage. I was with you again until you posted this. You originally claim that you “were in the right hand lane” & the closest car was 100m behind you. Your recollection is inconsistent, hence the flamage.

I encontered one of these nobs today on the road from Bungendore. Yeah, tha road with all the curves. The idiot started to overtake me right where the lanes merge. It was the third of three cars that decided to overtake right at the end of a 2 km overtaking lane. There was plenty of room for two but you didn’t need to be a genius to know the third one was never going to make it even with me slowing down to let the first two past. It was a white “hot flash I’m better than you” car rego zz 000. I had no choice but to merge into it’s side and force it on to the wrong side of the road. Luckily nothing was coming and the idiot got past me with no contact. I bet that driver is not long for this world. It did the same thing about 2 weeks ago on the road past the airport.
I think I’ll be making a stat dec tomorrow.

So what you’re saying is that you were in the left hand lane and then kept beside another motorist forcing him into an oncoming traffic lane when your lane ended?

And you’re going to sign a stat dec stating that you did this?

I guess it’s good to make it easy for the traffic cops; get agressive drivers off the road until they learn defensive driving.

Sounds exactly like what he is saying to me, thing is, the car in the left hand lane is supposed to give way…………..

Yep, in NSW (And here too for the many ACT drivers who don’t know) at a merger where the lanes are divided by a dotted line, if you cross that line, you must give way to the traffic that does not.

IE if your lkane ends, you must slow enough to wait for a gap, so while the Ferrari was in the wrong for speeding, TUS was in the wrong for not giving way.

ThatUniStudent said :

What a bunch of d***heads you people are. I was driving at the speed limit. At the overtaking lane I went into the left hand lane and slowed down to let people pass who were doing more than the speed limit. Some would have been doing at least 120 km/h. Yes I know I’m supposed to give way to what is on the other side of the dotted line. But the law also states people should not drive dangerously. So I had a big gap between me and the cars behind me in the right hand lane. Seeing the sign that read the left lane ends, I indicated for the right hand lane and then started to merge. The idiots behind me kept coming and despite the distance between us, and me speeding back up to 100 km/h all three attempted to pass.

Yeah, I have no problem making a stat dec to that effect. I’ll also provide the video my mate took of it. It will be abundantly clear that I did nothing wrong, and that the diver of zz 000 was a tool who should not have a driver’s licence.

Now troll all you like. I have a clear conscience.

I overtake them anyway.

Precisely. It’s possible ThatUniStudent is one of those drivers who irritates the people behind.

How dare cars that have caught up to you want to overtake you?

You had a number of choices – and you mentioned one just before you said you had no choice. You could simply slow (more) to let the driver in.

Also, if your lane merged into the right across dotted lines then you had to give way. Even if you had right of way and a collision occured while merging, you and the other driver could both be charged. Your attitude is as smelly as the driver of the “white hot flash” car.
