The Economist View Of Canberra

The Economist have this mini-guide to Canberra. Now while it gives a nice little potted history and things to do guide of Canberra for any executives or others visiting on the company/tax-payer dollar, I’m a bit bloody annoyed that we’re only a subset of the Sydney guide. Not to mention the article was probably written by someone who has only been North of the lake once (and that was to visit Mortis, which is why they think its still alive).

Note the pic of some caf called ‘Anise’ seems to have been taken by a seriously pissed patron.

ahh yes!
My mistake
and the restaurant that makes me go *yuk* is Courgette, it’s on Marcus Clarke st, I think…though eggplants aren’t very bloody nice either

Thumper, there’s no Aardvarks in the entire document.

Aubergines are eggplants, not zucchini.

The “snooty” (ie. French) word for zucchini is courgette.

I note that Mooseheads and South Pac didn’t get a mention of things to go see and do either…

Better ‘Aubergine’ than ‘cucumber’, don’t you think ? And -pedantic me- ‘aubergine’ is French, ‘zucchini’ Italian, but yes, they mean the same thing.

“Canberra has a conspicuous lack of street life”

Does that mean we have few homeless people and beggars on our streets? Or that everyone’s stuck in their offices (after all, this is a public service town…)?

Quite snooty!
I still can’t get passed the fact that there’s a resturant named ‘Auburgine’ – the snootier name for Zucchini….
I see ‘Auburgine’ and think *yuk*
