The election is over, so lets talk about the important things, like OFFAL.

There was a great recipe for liver encrusted roast in the last offal thread.. It made one of the most tasty roasts I have ever had.

So all you offal lovers out there, and I know there are lots of you, keep reporting back with your most offalicious experiences.

Offal makes the world go round.

I tried lambs liver once. I thought it tasted like shite.

I tried lamb’s liver once. *hehehe*

It’s not bad, really. Doesn’t really have a taste, I don’t think, but I can stomach it. It’s better than my liver, I’m sure.

so, bigfeet, the offal recipe went down a treat, did it? good to see that I am not the only one that likes using offal to enhance a decent bit of roast – was the meat really tender?

Very moist, I was bit concerned as the crust seemed to be getting very…well…crusty, but I resisted the urge to remove it from the oven early, and I am glad I did.

So we had a nice firm crispy crust on the outside, with a perfect med rare beef roast in the centre.

… Just pasta puttanesca tonight. Not a single innard in sight. Damn.

Ooh, hang on a sec and I’ll google some nice pooh recipes! I so hope they don’t have any ….

*LOL*

… I should also point out that these dogs are also partial to pooh.

Our dogs love fried liver. They’ll do anything for liver, even eat pills hidden in it. They know they’re there, but are crazed by the liver.

To quote from Anansi Boys by Neil Gaimen

“You ever eaten kidneys, Daisy?”

“Once” said Daisy. “If you ask me, you get the same effect by grilling half a pound of liver, then weeing all over it.”

Ahh, I had it fried in a pan. If I ever get a chance to have it battered, I’ll give it a try.

best cooked in batter in a deep fryer. pale ale batter is best.

What on earth is an offal??

Guts. People eat them and pretend to like it. We aren’t fooled.

Yes, yes it was a big night. Nothing quite so great than to wake up at lunch time with a hang over to the smell of your housemate cooking kidneys with bacon, garlic, mushrooms and onion. That and a mug of coffee and i almost felt human again.

What on earth is an offal??

ok I’m not up on what’s gone on with offal here before, but I just want to say I love the stuff. My siblings and I used to fight over who got the kidneys in steak and kidney pie and if there wasn’t an even distribution all hell broke lose.

the pork pies out at the epic sat’dy markets loked good – only very large ones left so didn’t sample – i know this is not strictly offal…

last lot of offal i did was a few weeks back now, chicken livers with leeks, mushrooms, capsicum and garlic, all fried up in a good dollop of butter pepper and rosemary, then finished with a splash of dry white wine and a bit of cream (i may have used mayonnaise if i didn’t have cream..? all good…). ’twas sensational.

that is if you don’t count the fairly regular – every other sunday or thereabouts – black pudding with a fry up for breakfast. the best ones i get from the deli at belco mkts nearest the dance floor, but even the good old standby don (is don, is good) works well enough. mmmmm, black puddin’…

Breakfast of champions…..must have been a big night if you are having breakfast at 2.00pm!!!

I knew you would be excited Granny.

So many offal puns … tripe for the picking.

At a haggis I think you are tripe.

The voters didn’t de-liver for Pratt.

I am gutted that Steve Pratt lost the election.

(2 birds: 1 (kidney) stone)

You’ve all been talking a load of tripe.

I like meat, but that’s just offal.

Yay! The offal thread lives again!!

: )

I’m vego, but I noticed that Lost River Meats from Crookwell have some bits (kidneys, liver etc) at the Phillip farmer’s markets every Sunday morning.
