The Seattle Times is covering Lauren Jackson (until this morning considered a Canberra Capitals player when in Australia) and her decision to turn to the dark side in Sydney.

It seems she’s no longer a Canberran but an Albury girl who lives in Sydney and plays for the big dollars in the lucrative Russian women’s basketball league (no salary caps).

On the bright side she’s not planning to join the Sydney Flames until 2012.

Lauren Jackson - If you love something let it go, if it doesn't come back...

She really doesn’t owe any of us anything I don’t think, it’s her individual dedication and ability that has got her to where she is.

If we paid her way through the AIS she does owe us something, like the Llllleyton Hewitts etc, pity we’ll never get it back.

We really should put in a HECS style scheme on the AIS.

She was something of a focus for the local lesbians I used to work with, no idea if it carries to the rest of the population, or if she is one.

She was in a relationship with a prominent inner north cafe owner (female) for some time.

Prior to that wasnt she with the cafe owners daughter???
Also rumour is that she is actually taking a break from women is seeing a man from SA..

Ooops. I better get used to this warm weather since clearly I’m headed to only one place.

Hahaha this post and the couple before it would have to be one of the funniest things I have read on the internet.

i assisted a photographer on a nike photo shoot with her when she was very up and coming – tall? far out..! but entirely sweet and i have been a fan ever since (even though i never actually like to watch b/ball – i do enjoy watching her…)

Obvious move. Much more carpet in Sydney.

That’s because it looks to be hosted at Google, not the-riotact.com.

strange the picture of Lauren is the only one other then ads that get through my works firewall, all other pictures are blocked.

not dissing you JB but this is old news to capitals fans – she made it clear that when she left the caps when/if she returned to australian domestic league, she’d be playing for sydney. i assume she just wants to live in the big smoke, maybe hook up with ruby rose. god knows why she’d want to actually play for sydney, they are a sh*t team – the WNBL equivalent of collingwood – ie make the finals but then crumble most of the time. word on the street is that musselwhite left the flames (sydney) to join the capitals because she wants a premiership before she retires!

I named my daughter after her.

Yes she would frequent Hush.

Didn’t she promote that crappy apartment building in Woden? I’d leave town too.

Good riddance. Never liked her. Being able to throw a piece of dead cow through a metal ring doesn’t impress me.

Womens basketball succeeding locally where the Canberra Cannons failed impresses me.

They’ve carried themselves a helluva lot better than other high-profile, local athletes and set a pretty good example…

After living here for so long and making a name for herself here it’d be nice if the ACT got some credit for her curent position.

But you are right, I’m also tired of Russell Crowe being claimed as Australian one minute a kiwi the next. same goes for any number of celebtrities. A personal irritant is the ‘pacific’ accent cultivated and adopted by some celebrities (such as the Minogues)in order to endear them to a multinational audience. For god sake, is it so bad being proud to come from just one nation?

Why is it that canberra people never get credited with it when the move interstate of overseas once they make it big? If they don’t stand up for the place when they leave they shouldn’t be allowed back across the border.

Wasn’t she also one of Stanhopes local Ambassador’s, supposedly promoting Canberra when she was overseas?

Wasn’t she originally from Albury???

Kind of like Australia claiming Russell Crowe at his peak even though he was orginally from NZ (or was the Mel Gibson, you get the point anyway!).

I think that she’s been a great ambassador for her sport, she’s done a helluva lot for it, she’s done a fair bit for the community too.

Athletes obviously have shorter careers than the norm, in my opinion she seems to be making the most of that career and is cashing in while she can. She really doesn’t owe any of us anything I don’t think, it’s her individual dedication and ability that has got her to where she is.

Take those Russians for all they’re worth Lauren, upgrade your lifestyle and set yourself up for an extremely comfortable retirement.

I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t want the same for themselves.

She used to drink at the Pot Belly when at AIS and had her 18th there. She will be sorely missed (not that we saw much of her lately – not even a postcard from Moscow!).

Nexus, ouch. 🙂 But did you get her number? … nevermind. Drat.

Skid, that could be his mouth-controlly-joysticky-thing too.

More importantly, what is the deal with the bloke in the background smoking a dart?

He’s in a wheelchair, wearing a blanket, and drinking through a straw.
Give him a break.

But maybe she can bring back nice Russian woman who have the nice complexion, speak the English quite weel, and who be wanting to meets after discuss relationship first via the internets?

PS: Can’t you get a better photo of her?

Well, there goes *that* plan.

I think I have too many Y chromosomes, anyway. Drat.
