The ABC explains that the Finks Motorcycle Club are coming to Canberra to mount their High Court challenge to their declaration as a criminal organisation in Queensland:

The Finks have launched a challenge arguing the move is unconstitutional.

Lawyer Bill Potts says the move is unconstitutional and he is hoping the High Court will allow a challenge in late December or early next year.

“The High Court will determine whether this application is of sufficient public importance and raises sufficient constitutional issues for the full court of the High Court to make a determination,” Mr Pott said.

UPDATE 05/10/12 13:35: And News are reporting the Finks have won leave to appeal.

Personally, on balance am against these anti association laws.

Agreed.

Then again, on balance I’m against dishonest drug-dealing scum as well, so I won’t be manning the barricades with them.

I am dangerously close to agreeing with HenryBG, but I also don’t care much for the average person who self identifies as an “Outlaw Motorcycle Club Member ®”.

I think police should do everything in their power to bring charges against such people, but I don’t think our lazy pollies need to bring in new laws specifically aimed at targeting a subset of the community who they know are breaking existing laws but can’t seem to stop.

Good luck to them.

George Orwell saw it coming. This law is draconian and inappropriate!

Personally, on balance am against these anti association laws.
