floriade bus

Andrew Barr has announced we’ve bought ourselves a Murrays Bus to advertise Floriade:

A Murrays 58-seater bus has been turned into a massive mobile advertisement for Floriade 2011 which will ferry thousands of passengers from Sydney to Canberra until the end of Floriade.

The Murrays Floriade Express will start operations on Monday 1 August to promote Floriade which runs for a month starting 17 September.

This new marketing tool is part of Australian Capital Tourism’s campaign to increase the number of visitors coming to Canberra during Floriade. It will ferry passengers from Sydney’s Central Station and Sydney International Airport to Canberra 7 times a week.

The large and brightly coloured coach will be hard to miss for the thousands of motorists and pedestrians in Sydney as it will drive past daily. This is a new and interesting way to promote Floriade to the key market which is Sydney and the NSW regions.

Andrew is pictured here with Ron Murray himself, Managing Director of Murrays.

“will ferry thousands of passengers”? My maths might be off, but if the bus does 1 trip a day (Sydney/Canberra return) over 4 weeks, that’s about 1700 passengers.

Well its 2 buses there, 1 bus back. But they’re never full, so i suspect you’d be about right.

61 seats. So anywhere between 1769 and 3538 depending on how full the buses are.

The sooner the gardens of Floriade are turned into a car racing circuit, the better off Canberra will be!

I’ve lived in Canberra for near on 10 years and have been to Floriade once and won’t ever be back. Its as boring as bats***! I hope it rains solid from 17th Sep to 16th October!

I have one issue with your comments Captain, Can we specify the rain be loaclised simply to this event and it’s surrounds? Just in case we get our wish! (Oh Pretty Please!)

Just found this Wiki on the event, it contradicts itslelf though as it says that 52,000 tickets were sold but the crowds were 101,000 (this is the reported figure I remember from the time) .

So nearly half the attendees snuck in without a ticket. Cheapskates. And 101,000 is nowhere the “100,000’s of thousands” you previously claimed

Over a 100,000 passed through the gates on the first one, the next two were down on that figure. How do you know no one spent any money? V8 Supercars bring people from miles around & they all have to stay/eat/drink somewhere? Bullshit yourself………

The Stanhope opposition was completely against it & could not wait to can it as soon as they got in.

I dont begrudge Floriade, we go most years but really, this town does its best to stymie motorsport of any form for some reason while throwing stupid amounts of money as sports like Aussie Rules that pull a 5-10,000 crowd of mainly locals a couple of times a year. I wonder what it costs to keep Manuka Oval running while it isnt being used…………..

Indeed. And, let us not forget at what time of year the V8 circus was in town. What are the current June / early July events?

Oh yeah . . . Darwin and Townsville. Successful? Rather.

Yah, while it didnt really worry us locals its not really the best time of year to attract tourists to an outdoor event…. 🙂

Oh so Capt RAAF doesn’t like pretty flowers….let’s just ruin it for the 10’s of 1000’s that do. BTW, Canberra did try that whole racing car circuit once before….lead balloon anyone?

& the wowsers ruined it for the 100,000’s of thousands that turned up to see it…………..

No body spent any money, that’s why the powers that be bought it for five years and only held it for three. 100,000’s of thousand (where did you get that bulshit figure from?) of cheapskates help no-one

IMHO, night fest is the best thing that’s ever happened to floriade. I’m glad it’s on again this year.

Regardless, exactly how much exposure will a single bus give for the time it spends on the road, especially given that it will be humming down the freeways? Common sense tells me they would have been better off purchasing bus-back advertising on Sydney metro buses if they wanted exposure in the Sydney market.

An assault to the senses.
