The fragile fence at Majura Oval

fragile fence

One might think that a fence built upon a public, unlocked, multi-use sports ground would need to be a robust thing.

But the oval across the road from the Ainslie football club appears to have a fence not built to a rigorous standard.

I’m not sure how long that sign is going to last either.

I asked Google to translate the sign into Azerbaijani and back to English and the end result much better: no fence to protect a kick out of, or damage to the counter top

Urdu is a little more threatening: Security fence is not kicking or throwing the ball against the fence to kill

Paid for by the baseball club with their hard earned savings and they put the sign there in the hope that people might refrain from kicking balls into it-chainmesh fencing is not designed to have balls kicked into it-the construction quality is actually very good

The baseballers across the road use batting cages for practise not fences

Anyone ever seen a the back of a cricket net?? As dtc said – continually smashing cricket/baseballs into the fence will damage it. That’s why that dinky little sign is there.

Could do better with the sign though.

Looks like the fence is powder coated in black finish, very fancy. Guess they don’t want to harm the paint work on it more to the point.

Not sure why the fences can’t cope however.

Obviously they take offence.

actually . . . these signs always appear during cricket or baseball season. Warming up by smashing balls against the fence is a favourite pastime amongst those who think they can bat and saves the rest of us having to fetch the ball (whereas us bowlers just use the edge of the bat for 100 taps into the air then sit back in the sun and relax some more, confident that our ‘6 or out’ approach to batting will work this time, since 134th time lucky).

Not sure why the fences can’t cope however.

they should put a fence around the fence

I giggled because I figured there had been enough trouble with people hitting their balls against the fence that a sign was warranted. At least those who participated should be in no state to reproduce.

They need to put up a sign to protect that sign, and maybe a security guard to protect that sign – but not the fence.

I think that sign might come down with tonight’s dew.

All caps? Check. Italics? Check. Underlined? Check. Bolded? Check. Gibberish grammar? Check. Comic Sans? Negative. Clip art? Negative.

5/7 very good effort
