Andrew Barr is very excited by the opening of a vast student accomodation complex at the University of Canberra:

Minister for Education and Training Andrew Barr today officially opened the University of Canberra Village, a $38 million, 507 bed student accommodation complex on campus.

“With a 5-star energy efficiency rating, passive solar designs, grey water recycling, a wildlife corridor, an e-Library, common lounge areas, café, shared barbecue and balcony areas as well as green space to encourage a sense of community, this complex represents the future of tertiary education in the ACT,” Mr Barr said.

When 507 new beds bring the total accommodation up to 1,500 it’s a big day.

The other question is how long this heaven on earth remains attractive under the assault of the student population’s wicked ways.

It keeps reminding me of Toad Hall. A sociological experiment of the worst sort.
