Looks like there will be some movement on the derelict former school. I guess I’m disappointed to read that the oval, is no longer recognised as an oval – despite the community use. Also a bit sad to read how the oval might be used, if it can be rezoned and partially sold for housing:

The Economic Development Directorate is conducting community engagement with the Higgins and wider Canberra community on the development of the former Higgins School site (Block 2 Section 11) and the adjoining decommissioned oval (Block 19 Section 10).

The Directorate wants to work with the community to decide how this space can best serve the Higgins community into the future. The community is invited to tell us what they think about the existing and possible new development options for the former Higgins School site and the decommissioned oval.

To find out more information, ask questions and provide feedback, the Directorate is holding community drop-in information sessions at the following times and place:

Dates and Times:

  • 4:30pm-6:30pm Wednesday, 21 May 2014; or
  • 11:00am-1:00pm Saturday, 24 May 2014
