The Git Returns!

The Canberra Times has the joyous news that the occasional RiotACT commenter, and full time rugby union super-star, Matt Giteau, is coming home to the Brumbies in 2010!

The Western Force is expected to announce today its star player’s decision to leave Perth after three Super 14 seasons.

It is believed the Australian Rugby Union has been informed of Giteau’s decision and asked to formally approve the move.

Giteau will play out the 2009 season with the Force before taking up what is understood to be a two-year deal for 2010 and 2011.

If it pans out it’s the best news I’ve seen in a long time!

UPDATE: The Brumbies and WA Rugby have put out a joint media release confirming the deal.

“The 25-year-old fielded generous offers from the Emirates Western Force and CA Brumbies, but ultimately chose the latter in order to return home and be closer to family and friends.

“I was very fortunate to have two fantastic offers to consider. In the end it came down to a simple desire to return to Canberra,” the 65-Test veteran explained.

Giteau, who has played 26 matches for the Emirates Western Force after joining the side in 2007, said he had deliberated long and hard over his future at provincial level.

“Having committed to the Wallabies and Australian Rugby until the end of 2011, it was just my Super 14 future that I needed to consider,” he said.

“I have had a great time over here and I’ve really enjoyed living in Perth. I’ve been lucky enough to play with a great bunch of players and in front of some of the best fans in the country.”

“I want to thank the people of Perth, my teammates and the Emirates Western Force for their support over the last few years.”

Enough to get your attention eh Igglepiggle?

It will be good to see him back after our effort against the very depleted Crusaders tonight – we need all the skill we can get! I just hope “Gits'” ability to speak returns once he gets away from the Yarpies, Kiwis and Poms over in Perth. My hopelessly biased ACT Brumbies memory of his was of an lot more eloquent bloke than the media interview of him announcing his return to the ACT.

PS – Yes, I’m taking the p*&s. I know Aussies can speak bogan just as well as the Yarpies, Kiwis and Poms heh heh heh.

The Brumbies should thank the Git’s mummy for not leaving town when her son did.

So who’s paying?

Slow news day when a footy player fills the front page.

Wonder if he’ll want his job behind the bar at Easts back..oh, sorry, they knocked it down..

Hell yea! We will be a force again!

Word is that Drew Mitchell may follow him here…..Interesting times ahead.
I can’t help but notice it’s being announced in the week leading up to Brumbies v Force next week, which I believe to be an action to make John Mitchell angrier than he already is.
