Thanks very much to everyone who sent in photos of The Big Wet. The slideshow is looking great.

Above is an incredibly lavish video of the Googong spillway (the dam they said would never fill) in action posted to YouTube with this note:

The extraordinary rainfall in the Canberra region throughout 2010 has brought the region’s dam levels up to 100% capacity for the first time in 12 years. The rain has also stimulated tremendous flora and fauna activity. The newly completed Googong Dam Spillway was christened on December 3rd in spectacular style.

I like it too. Made and produced quickly it lines up well with the video and pictorial history of these major projects. All of the images and videos I have seen have been great and it is important to put as many in the public domain as possible. The potency of water is amazing and with the level of large debris in our water systems it combines to pack a big punch. We are working to restore the paving at the Discovery trail asap. But we may wait till after this next rain front arrives Thursday. Lets keep the slideshows and videos going – I like them all.

I like it. Nice video.

ACTEW is using our money running a TV advert re water – resplendent with silver tongue statements about how marvellously they are working for us.
Recall their earlier masterwork showing many of us carrying buckets of water to Googong Dam ?
Last night while in the usual post dinner semi-doze – I am sure I heard them link this campaign with the now brimming full dam system.
Can some kind soul please record this advert and post at RiotACT as a “YouTube” clip ? I only have an audio recorder which I am keeping handy.
Does anybody else remember the gist of what the advert says ?
Many thanks if somebody could record a clip of this TV advertisement.

but this is NOT what he does well.

Ouch!

Can’t we just enjoy the fact laid out by the video please?
(i.e. Canberrans can worry about something else other than water shortage. Yeah, well the other worry could be that there’s too much of the good thing)

Eau dear. Back to film school, old boy.

Actew wasting money again

Not necessarily a waste, some of the old Snowy Scheme videos are quite interesting to watch these days.

Aren’t the road signs an ACT government thing ?

Richard makes superb documentaries but this is NOT what he does well. Actew wasting money again and on that subject why do we still have the roadside info signs when they were only introduced to encourage us save water back in the dark says of drought? Those things don’t come cheap.

They’ve even had new blue decals made to fit around the display on those signs. If you squint, you can just make out they say “Permanent Water…”.
Still, I’m more okay with a solar powered ACTEW billboard on the Monaro Hwy than the rusting panel van advertising “Sexxxy Time Hume” on the median strip next to it.

Maybe they should use the road signs to encourage us to use water as much as possible, to prevent flooding down the river.

ENJOY.

See the comparision to the same dam in 2009…..my god!

Five videos on YouTube already of Googong overflowing, all better than this one. Cut out the music and the silly filters, let the scenes speak for itself. And if your equipment isn’t built for slow motion frame rates, don’t try and bluff it later.

This isn’t mine but it’s a good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc6J5WPM5vE&feature=related
