In the wake of last night’s fire Swoalah has sent in these pictures:

A couple of photos of the grass fire on Oxley Hill tonight.

We heard the explosion as we were walking around the lake and the hill was already well alight by the time we saw it, so it seems likely that the fire preceded the explosion.

And after tonight’s excitement, it’s probably time for a cup of tea and a bex and a nice lie down…

I remember growing up as a kid in Wanniassa. Oxley hill before houses used to go up in flames each summer. May have been back burning if they did that in the 80’s….
Used have lots of wildlife though, not just roos and snakes, but wombats and echidnas wear often sighted.

Tnks POETIX. I see now I didn’t use the correct Simpsons comic book expression. ‘K-Boom’ would
have been better.

Probably quite scary stuff for those nearby. Don’t the van Buuren’s (apologies for spelling) live in Oxley? My thoughts are with them and anyone else affected by past bushfires who probably relive their experiences every time these things occur.

Yes, they do. And hear, hear.

I hadn’t heard about this.

I wonder if it was caused by the same people who let off the most enormous fireworks near my house just over a week ago?

Thanks , great shots. I heard it on the news this morning, and they seemed to think the explosion started the thing. I wonder what the ‘cathumpah’ was.
