This afternoon Jazz and I laboured in the Lego salt mines to get all the donated sets for the Lego Challenge unpacked and man-portable.

We also took a crack at stop motion video as a practice for the first Lego Challenge kicking off on 7 August when Matt Watts (Liberal for Ginninderra) will take the first swing at the blocks to show us what he can create in 3 hours with an able assistant.

All candidates for the ACT 2012 Election are invited to try their hand and should email john@the-riotact.com to book in a slot (Entries close 20 September 2012).

As importantly the public are invited to grace Belconnen’s Basement bar from 6pm on Tuesday to watch the exercise in participatory democracy unfold.

Great job guys. That certainly is an impressive amount of lego. The candidates are going to need a plan of attack.

They’ll just form a committee; plan for 2 and a half hours and then spend the last 30 minutes piss-farting around trying to complete something none of them can agree on…

The approach to the Lego will be telling. Some will have planned. Personally I hope some are brave enough to be spontaneous and playful.

But we are talking about pollies and potential pollies.

No votes,

We record the build, and the candidate explains what they think they’ve done.

The rest is up to the audience.

Voting is done on election day.

I have only just become interested in this, even though it’s been on RA for quite some time. If this has been said before I’m sorry, I haven’t gone through the archives.
Haven’t the politicians of our present time already played with Lego. the result being most of the newer suburbs in Gungahlin?

Nice work!

Will you consider using lego to recreate or replay significant local events? I’m really enjoying some of the Olympics coverage:

How many kilolegos did you end up with ?

Candidates will be lucky to use a 3rd of that stash in 3 hrs, even with a helper. You’d be surprised how much time is spent looking for the right piece when it’s all mixed up like that. Even worse when you’re trying to colour co-ordinate as well.

I hope it’s not all bulldozers, cars and trains. I’ll be disappointed if one of the candidates were to attempt their own take on Belco’s phallic owl, but didn’t have the pieces to pull it off.

Quite a stash you ended up with! Impressive job.

Can’t help but feel a tiny bit disappointed it wasn’t a little more like this one though:

Although I do realise you had a) Less lego, b) more to actually do with your day, and c) the desire to not make it too easy for the candidates
