The Hall bendy-bus of mystery?

Does anyone know the story behind this?

For a week now, there’s been an ACTION bendy bus parked in the lay-by on the Barton Highway at Hall.

I say ACTION bus because it has the right livery but any logos have been removed, so presumably it’s ex ACTION.

Its windows are covered, it has no rego plates, it has witches hats around it, and it’s occasionally visited by a some folk in a white car.

It doesn’t appear to be being lived in.

How did it get there with no reg, and where can it go?

It would make an interesting mobile home conversion, with a bend in the middle!

Trouble is, they’re probably shagged mechanically by the time action get rid of them.

Yes, not only do they already have several hundred thousand km’s on the clock, they are usually retired when they are due for a major overhaul or in need of major repairs.

What sort of prices do these things go for?

Not sure about the artics but the rigids have been going for about $4000 recently.

At that price, instead of spending $600 million on a few trams, the territory could buy 150,000 second hand busses and issue one to each household…

Or turn them into one bedroom flats.

Just imagine 150,000 bus drivers in Canberra….you might even be able to catch one from Belco to the city after 7pm on Sundays…

Or rip out the motor, convert to electric and attach to overhead wires. If they then put it on rails, I’m sure the mechanics would be capable of bolting several artics together.

Or turn them into one bedroom flats.

No cleaner or chemical weapon could remove the stains 😛

That would certainly take some cars off congested roads…

Somehow I doubt that would help to reduce traffic congestion …. or improve the availability of parking!

Or just make the buses free.

Wow? That cheap?

I’m surprised…

Not that I want one….

It could be made into an amazing motorhome. Trouble is, they’re probably shagged mechanically by the time action get rid of them.

Some of the rigids were sold for scrap. With disability requirements, there’s not as much of a second hand market for high-floored buses as there used to be.

What sort of prices do these things go for?

The US has a dossier of intelligence that proves it is, in fact, a mobile chemical weapons laboratory.

Thanks SGS. You’d be pissed off you didn’t buy the other one, wouldn’t you!

The bus was sold by Pickles Auctions a few weeks ago (nobody bid on it at the auction so an offer must have been made afterwards) as one of two former ACTION buses up for sale (717 and 718…the one on the Barton Highway is 718).

According to the information I’ve received, the vehicle was being driven on an unregistered vehicle permit but had some mechanical problems near the border and pulled over in the rest area where it was discovered that replacement parts would be required. They’re still waiting on those parts.

The other bus, 717, did sell on the day of the auction and made it much further than the NSW/ACT border.

Mobile brothel? Flexible meth lab? Obscure sociology experiment? Reptoid surveillance van? Bad parking contestant?

The possibilities are endless.

I wonder if it is related to the meterialisation of a certain Police Box in the main street?

Mobile drug lab

Ive been wondering the same thing and found your post while searching online for info.
it seems really strange that it hasn’t moved in two weeks (are the authorities ignoring it?) and is visited by a few different cars.

I automatically suspect something illegal.
