Nope. I was referring to this thread, where the event was originally announced:

Commenters couldn’t wait to hope that participants would be hounded and booked by the cops. I defended them.

Just as you have confused the HO’s and the Rebels threads, perhaps you have confused me with someone else?

Evidently. Sorry ’bout that.

I was at a petrol station on Saturday when at least some of them were filling up. One of them had a “Loud Pipes save lives” patch on his jacket. If I had had my sewing machine with me, I could have added “…and cause Industrial Deafness”.

And bleeding of the ears.

Do you think they realise nobody is impressed with their bikes and just want them to keep it down?

No, they don’t realise that, because that’s not the case at all.

I think it was a case commentators confused the two events.

Nice pix – the featured bike was especially lovely.

I remember the thread on this a few weeks ago where NIMBY humanhaters predicted terrible degradation of the pristine ACT thanks to the invasion of these barbarians.

I think you’ll find that thread related to an influx of members of the Rebel motorcycle gang. They are generally not nice people, as evidenced by the fact (for example) that a couple of them were shotgunned to death in a Canberra suburban street a few years ago.

I know one of the Canberra HOGs, and he’s a nice bloke, and helped organise this gig. I took my sons along to watch the Thunder Run and check out the bikes at the show-and-shine. All peaceful, and they loved it.

I mean, people who are not just like me? It’s a slippery slope, whereby a whole lot of people who are not just like me might decide that the national capital belongs to them as much as anyone else. Why, this could lead to … democracy! /sarc off/

Personally, I think that the bikes are mostly more a tribute to form rather than function, and the clothes ditto. Once upon a time, that used to be called art.

If a bunch of stilt-walkers invaded the town, the luvvies would be in raptures. It’s “Art”, y’know?

Hope they come back sometime. The juxtaposition of their ‘look’ and the monumental aesthetic is certainly striking. Plus, they are Aussies who apparently had a great time!

We had the owners of 6 gorgeous Harley’s staying in our complex in Braddon this weekend. Its a wonderful sound that penetrates deep into your bones.

+1 There was also a mass of them at the Carotel in Watson too. They left via the Federal Highway this afternoon, sticking their fingers up at the speed camera as they went.

In other unrelated news, there was a spate of targeted break-ins in Watson lastnight. No fingerprints, late at night etc. Whoever it was went for Apple products and cash. They also had the balls to break in to people’s houses regardless of whether they were home or not so clearly able to hold their own in a potential fight.
