Business opportunities like this one don’t come up for sale too often – the Majors Creek pub is on the market!

The Majors Creek pub, also known as the Elrington Hotel, was constructed in 1913, replacing the previous Elrington Hotel that was built in 1856 across the road to serve prospectors during the gold rush at Dargues Reef (which reopened for mining last year).

The nearest major town is Braidwood, 16 km to the north, and there is a good flow of family, researchers, tourists and bushranger hunters in the area, as well as an annual folk festival that takes place on the Majors Creek Oval every year.

The hotel has enough business streams to ensure its ongoing viability, including a post office, guest accommodation in a train carriage, powered van sites, restaurant and bar, and a dining room that can seat 30 guests. The backpacker accommodation sleeps 15 and is popular with motorcycle and cycling groups, and the post office serves all in the region with 84 postal points and a parcel delivery route.

The Elrington features a fully updated commercial kitchen.

The pub itself has a brilliantly renovated commercial kitchen with a grease trap. The pub has a keg/cool room, a pool table and jukebox entertainment room, and a verandah shaded by a corrugated iron roof for patrons to look out over the cool green grass of the park opposite the pub.

The accommodation can house 15 and has a laundry and amenities unit and powered caravan sites. Within the pub itself, there are three double bedrooms, with two shared bathrooms and a manager’s residence with bedroom, ensuite, walk-in robe, and living area which can be used for overflow accommodation.

Bed and breakfast is a popular pick for patrons, particularly a cooked breakfast, always a win-win for patrons and the pub.

Luton Properties sales Agent Kelly Allen says the property is popular with locals and tourists alike, and should present an immediate opportunity to buyers.

“This is a delightful property, with history and a great future, and if you’ve ever wanted the country lifestyle and an income as well, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” she said.

“The pub is well known to tourists, who have a great loyalty to it, particularly in the folk music community,” she said.

“There’s great mobile reception at the pub, and across the road is a large park with an outdoor timber stage, ideal for events. The annual Majors Creek Folk Festival draws in a crowd of over 2000 people and the Dargues Gold Mine has raised the working population of the area significantly,” she said.
