The impertinent Rattenbury

The ABC has a story on the fury of Liberal Senator George Brandis that someone holding an important democratic position has held views opposed to his own in committee.

The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Shane Rattenbury presented evidence today in support of the Green’s Self Government bill.

The proposed bill ends the ability of an individual minister to veto Territory laws, and places the power with the Federal Parliament.

However Senate committee member Senator George Brandis questioned Mr Rattenbury’s motives.

“It’s in fact an impertinence for somebody who has the office as Speaker to say that he is representing a submission as Speaker when he is not speaking on anyone’s behalf but his own.

Tough luck George.

I see the ABC is reporting that the Senate President has ruled Brandis’ comments as offensive:

Do we expect a sincere apology from Brandis? Yeah right…
