The Indians are coming!

By Thumper 7 January 2008 97

No, not a line from a John Wayne movie. The Indian cricket team (sans monkeys) should be in Canberra today to prepare to be flogged by our mighty Comets.

From memory the last touring side to play the ACT was New Zealand, who got smoked all around manuka by one Jack Smith who hit a double ton. They were scheduled to visit the Bradman Museum in Bowral before moving on to Canberra. Hopefully I’ll get out to Manuka on Thursday or friday and catch a bit of the action. I guess the Jewel of India in Manuka is probably booked out for a while.

All the best to them and i hope they enjoy their stay in our city.

[Ed. Maybe not. Seems that the Indian Cricket team has been ordered to stay in Sydney and there is some conjecture that the entire tour may now be cancelled]

One would imagine that to be found guilty of racial abuse, you would have to actually racially abuse someone. Calling Symonds a “Monkey” is simply pointing out the bleeding obvious – with his spastic hair, stupid makeup and dumb face the guy simply looks like a frigging monkey.

It seems sanity has prevailed at any rate with the ICC bringing everyone into line and over-ruling what was a pretty dumb decision in the first place.

I’ll have to watch it.

That video is a classic, cleaned bowled but determined to argue the point. What a pillock…

Test Cricket only has room for one Turbinator: Monty Panesar…

Thumper 9:41 am 09 Jan 08

Yep, as usual the ICC wet themselves and caved in.

Watch them now cave in to the Indians demands that the Turbanator (TM)be found not guilty of racial abuse.

maybe next they’ll demand Australia field a side of Canberra 3rd graders as the test team.

They’ll probably get that as well.

Looks as though the Indians have blackmailed the ICC into their line of thinking and the tour is back on. They should arrive in Canberra today.

Hahaha that video is gold!

I thought it was a bit rude of Michael Clarke to not walk in the 2nd dig when he edged one to first slip. Until I saw this…

…must say, for a country pleading to be so pure, young Harbhajan has quite the potty mouth too.

“Chris Rogers (WA)and Ed Cowan (NSW) are confirmed to be playing for the ACT.”

That’s great. Any idea from which Australian states the players of the Indian team will be made up of?

hingo_VRCalaisV6 3:06 pm 08 Jan 08

Think I just caught a glimpse of the team getting on a Murrays coach on the TV. They might be on their way! I have to work on my sledging!

Thumper 1:46 pm 08 Jan 08

The match, if it goers ahead, is now a three day match.

pity that the old boys in Cricket Australia can’t see it in their cold black hearts to deem it first class.

Thumper 12:34 pm 08 Jan 08

Chris Rogers (WA)and Ed Cowan (NSW) are confirmed to be playing for the ACT.

Crikey 12:24 pm 08 Jan 08

“So they could be taking their bats and balls and going home?”

I didn’t think they brought their ‘balls’ with them!!!

Ir they pull out from the rest of the tour the ICC should ban them jntil the next Year of the Monkey.

Thumper 12:14 pm 08 Jan 08

So, has anyone tried to book into the Jewel of India?

It’s probably the only way we’ll find out if the tour really is cancelled.

Snahons_scv6_berlina 11:59 am 08 Jan 08

Does this mean I can no longer sing happy birthday to you… you look like a monkey and smell like one too?

Thumper 11:27 am 08 Jan 08

If only harbi had called Symonds a ‘f*cking cheating long haired zinc wearing f*cktard’

then all would have been fine.

Frankly, the Indians should be looking at why they lost the test and fixing their own playing deficiencys rather than sulking about the umpiring.

I do note that none of the commentators mentioned that both Laxman and Tendulkar where plumb lbw in the first innings but where given not out, and went onto make centuries.

Or that the Turbinator had ponting lbw with a ball that was definitely hit onto the pad, therefore not out.

Umpiring decisions work both ways. the Indians have chucked possibly the greatest dummy spit in the history of cricket to hide there skills inadequacies.

GnT 11:14 am 08 Jan 08

“Sore losers v sore winners.”

Good point, leahcim. Both sides are acting like idiots. The umpiring might be poor, but part of good sportsmanship is to accept the decision. I was disappointed Symonds didn’t walk when he was caught at 30, but the Indians need to accept the umpires decision and just play the game.

As for the (alleged) sledging, it should all be banned, whether racist or not. As someone pointed out, someone could be more offended by ‘bastard’ than ‘monkey’ – neither are acceptable.

Mr Evil 10:00 am 08 Jan 08

Can I come too? I’ll bring a bunch of bananas! 🙂

hingo_VRCalaisV6 9:37 am 08 Jan 08

I was thinking about finishing up my work early and going to see some of this match. I hope it isn’t abandoned. If it is, I will lose all respect for the Indian team. They need to learn to accept that the umpires decision is final whether they like the outcome or not.

astrojax 9:02 am 08 Jan 08

it mightn’t have the perjorative conotation in india to call someone ‘monkey’, koobs.

but unless the world has undergone some extremely radical geographical reorganisation overnight, we’re not in india.

and the furore in october about the crowd mimicking monkeys at roy is clearly enough indication for harbhajan to understand the context of useage in australia to australians.

that said, i entirely agree that to take one side’s word over the other is a fraught decision and i’d be surprised if the tour continues unless at least one of the tourist’s demands are met – probably bucknor’s sacking…

can’t see the manuka match going ahead now. pity, especially for the local lads.

btw, who were the three domestic palyers named to bolster the local squad? word intially was they’d be named yesterday.
