YouTube brings us the last of a very small number of Brumby tries in 2007. Thankfully we got four and some rather good ones at that!

From RugbyHeaven today (I had a similar reaction without the injury – good to see Porky’s passion coming out!):

Perils of pub rugby

New Australian Rugby Union chairman Peter McGrath reinjured an old rugby league knee problem at the Hunters Hill Hotel last Saturday afternoon. No, he wasn’t involved in an atrocity. McGrath was drinking a diet Coke and got very animated when the ACT Brumbies scored a bonus point try in the final minutes of the Highlanders game. The ARU boss leapt up off his bar stool and crashed to the floor. “I was happy, but also in a lot of pain,” McGrath said.

The thing is amongst the top teams we were unique for our stingy defence and low try scoring.

The teams we were playing like were all losers.

When they bring in a bonus point for keeping the other team tryless the tactic might make some sense.

btw, I do agree that they had a great year. I just don’t want to hear Laurie explaining that its okay to play the way we did because that’s how everyone else is playing. I could coach the team if that is how it will be.

Need to be tough – this is our team!

Couple of things: Crusaders finished 3rd not 1st. We won a couple of games with some luck – the 6-3 win over the Reds was a shocker and exactly exemplifies what I mean about playing to the other teams level of Rugby instead of playing an expansive game and putting them to the sword – just like the Bulls did to them.

Fact is, they won a lot of games. They won six games in a row (never done that before) & even won more games than the Crusaders who finished first. Sure, some bonus points would have been great, but hey…I reckon they’ve had a good year. Were it not for a couple of last minute losses, they would have finished 1st & we’d be looking forward to a home semi this weekend. You lot are a tough crowd.

Plenty of teams (mostly the better ones) managed to score plenty of tries.

justbands, Laurie has won you over too!!! I understand what you are saying but we never used to say “That’s just how rugby is now”. We used to set the trend not follow it.

Meh, I reckon they had a good year. Rugby has changed a lot in recent years, 4 tries are a lot harder to come by. Obviouslt not good to miss out on the finals, but it’s a very tough comp.

This try was incredibly exciting and capped off a pretty good season. I got a “final” equivalent vs the Crusaders so I am content – the waratahs and reds finishing on the bottom helps too!

I’m not happy with Laurie as the coach – I think if we had someone like Kafer we would be more positive and a big chance for the title again instead of this constant battle for 4th place. We didn’t capitalise this year and should learn from the game in Dunedin that we need to throw it around and we can win anywhere anytime.

Till next year.
