Actually, it looks mostly out, but there is several Police and ACTFB vehicles in attendance.

Insurance Job?

[ED – Looking forward to seeing a police media release]

UPDATED: Ari’s noted that the Canberra Times has more on this:

A witness said an ”extremely violent” fight broke out between two men in the middle of the shopping arcade about 5pm yesterday.

The witness, who did not wish to be identified, said the pair fought for several minutes, ”running at each other like rams butting heads”.

It is understood the two were separated by shoppers.

The witness said one shouted, ”You’re dead, I’m going to kill you”, and the other ran off in the direction of the boarded-up Jamison Tavern.

Fifteen minutes later, the building was on fire.

FURTHER UPDATE: The CT also reports a taser was used after a rooftop chase.

only god knows what they were doing…

Probably stripping out the copper wire to sell for scrap…

Ahh sorry Kramer, thought it was someone who started using Jamo after the renovations. Born and bred Cook boy to this day mate 😀 .

Yea one day I was cutting through the back carpark of the old Inn when I walked to the shops, thought I would have a sticky beak inside and was scared shitless by 2 random blokes. I said g’day and made my way out of there, only god knows what they were doing…

Nice one DMD. I had heard there was a squatter at the Jammo Inn. Not surprising really it had been empty for a long time.

Jamo had a roller rink back in the 80’s. That’s pretty sparkly.

Only born & bred here Panhead. Maybe I’ve just known Jammo for so long that the dodgy side can never be erased from my memory, no matter how much sparkle they add.

Obviously the person talking about ramping security up at Jamo isn’t a local.

Even that dodgey ass laneway that you had to use to get in after hours was safe…

What I want to know is, why did they break up the fight? The fighters were clearly consenting adults and by all accounts it sounds entertaining. The by standers should have withdrawn to a safe distance and commenced laying bets.

I heard recently that the shiny new Jammo has made a fair dent in Westfield’s business at the Belco Mall ….

It must be true.

I used to shop at Jammo as opposed to Westfield as I can’t stand crowds. Now the crowds are at Jammo I am doing more and more of my purchasing at Cook Shops. If that gets popular, I will be reduced to interwebs shopping to avoid all the horrible people out there.

The Jamo Inn smelt like urinal cakes, and the urinal smelt like rats.

Maybe they put the trough lollies in the bar and not the toilets, hence the mix up.

Maybe they need better security? Otherwise ramp up the local residential property development, to get the scum outta the area.

2 incidents in just as many years. Gee…that’s crime-ridden. Kind of like, umm…the average suburban shopping centre?

Perhaps the entire city should hire better security. Maybe they can put together a team of trained specialists, who are armed and have the power of arrest. This elite crack squad of security should also have an easy-to-remember phone number so they can be called to anywhere in the city, say triple 0, everyone can remember that. Perhaps even the higher-trained members of this security team can investigate crimes they didn’t reach in time to stop, gathering evidence and catching the offenders later on, to make sure people know crime isn’t something that’s easy to get away with.

Oh wait…

Yeah, even when you had to walk though what I can only assume was an intentionally threatening alley way to get to Coles after hours, it was a pretty safe place.

I night managed the supermarket in Jamo for a number of years back in the 90’s. Despite being witness to many interesting sights such as naked shoppers, people falling off the wall below the pub and cracking their head open, kids on drugs, people having sex and cracking the Comm Bank’s widows in the process, and kids doing doughnuts in the carpark I never saw anyhting that would suggest a requirement for higher security. Jamo at 3am was as safe as houses. Crack houses.

The Jamo Inn smelt like urinal cakes, and the urinal smelt like rats.

After resisting arrest, police used a taser gun to suppress the man.

Suppress is an interesting choice of words.

A bit nicer than “police used a taser gun to fu## up the man a bit more and then arrested him.

Meth is a hell of a drug.

Not an insurance job then…

Nup, doesn’t sound like it.

Explains why, in addition to three ACT Pumpers, and the BA Truck, there were several (4 or 5 I saw) police vehicles, patrolling the local streets.

If it is an insurance job, the people doing it must have a passion for theatre.

Not an insurance job then…

Probably just more vandals. The windows had all been broken some weeks ago.

Shame.
