The Motorists hold forth on Liquor, Pills, and the Environment

The Australian Motorist Party has graced my inbox with two offerings tonight:

Environment Policy:

The Motorist Party’s number one focus on energy supply in the ACT is that it be “cost sensible”. The Community can expect us to work with the ACT Government to address such issues as:

• Power generation through a number of sustainable energy sources e.g. a natural gas fired power station;

• A cleaner and more efficient public transport;

• Effective management of green spaces;

• Encouraging the community to effectively recycle by providing more knowledge and understanding of recycling programs;

• Greater development of environmental considerations as a part of the education curriculum;

• The building, including the placement and orientation, of energy efficient homes and commercial buildings, including the retro-fitting of existing infrastructures;

• Vigorously promote the introduction of energy efficient vehicles such as hydrogen and electric powered cars, trucks and buses, whilst still recognising the value of an efficient and cost effective mass transit system; and

• Promoting the value of practical and sustainable environmental initiatives.

Intriguingly protected Mitchell from residential incursion gets a mention too. Summernats being an important part of the environment.

Booze and pills:

With current levels of alcohol related incidents of violence and damage to property in Canberra, the Motorist Party feel there is a need for some adjustments to be made to current liquor licensing laws.

The Motorist Party would reduce trading hours, for a trial period, to gauge the effects of introducing lockouts and rostering closing times of licensed premises where they are concentrated in high energy precincts.

Our concerns also flow over to the recreational drug use which we believe is of major concern especially in our nightspots. We would increase the use of drug squad detectives in plain clothes to circulate through licensed premises during busy times. We would also look at introducing minimum lighting levels in premises to assist with drug detection.

“Work with the ACT Government” ?????? I thought they wanted to be the ACT Government.

Thats it. Im voting for the SunDried Tomato Party. Where are they when you need them? Between these guys suddenly becoming experts on drug enforcement and the Pirate Party so organised it cant even get itself registered theres almost no nutjobs worth voting for now.

Hey Chic what is the speed limit on the Parkway?

I was with them and thought they had actually had an outbreak of common sense until they couldn’t hold it together in the last paragraph.

Sustainable natural gas fired power is an oxymoron.

Always makes me cringe when a would-be politician or party want to inject themselves into operational matters rather than sticking to policy. Drug problem? Sure, increase police, yeah OK, might help… but really ” Increase the use of drug squad detectives in plain clothes to circulate through licensed premises during busy times..”?? Like what, the police don’t know how or when to run a drug operation? Separation of powers chaps, read up on it between elections perhaps?
