mully cup

Here in the The Eagle’s Nest we can think of no finer thing than to award the Mully Cup for August to the Convoy Of No Confidence.

The Mully Cup is awarded monthly to the leading cause of comment in Canberra during a calendar month.

Well done CONCers, the trip has not been a complete waste.

Think you’ll find it was only after he’d obtained a massive majority in ’96 (something like 40 seats if I recall, so perhaps not all that courageous), and at the ’98 election actually lost the popular vote (the nearest thing to a referendum and the worst first term result for 70 years) and very nearly his majority as well – but still brought in the GST anyway (which btw I happen to agree with, as well as a carbon tax, providing each has appropriate offsets).

You cannot imagine my pride in the Mully Cup given I posted the original “Truck Convoy into Canberra” message.

Also pretty damned pleased I was interstate and only got back tonight so I missed all the fun. Or non fun.

The driver of the truck pictured should be booked. He’s clearly overloaded with irony.

So its perfectly fine for a leader of a major political party to state to the entire country a week or two before the election a simple promise, then when your party is (s)elected, its okay to do the complete opposite? ie a lie?

How short your memory, You should cast your mind back to the dark, divisive and deceptive days of John Howard. He was so “honest” that he was called “Honest John” in the same way that a bald man is nicknamed “Curly”.

Mate you are wasting your breath trying to use logic in a discussion with these flat-earthers.

The unwashed masses are well……..unwashed.

Anybody would think you’d be treating this whole topic as a kind of religion speaking of “masses, unwashed”, “logic” and “flat-earthers” in the same sentence. Somewhat Ironic.

I’m not going even bother with the poster that can only insult Howard. If that’s all you got….I never voted for Howard – not even once, but it’s takes a very small mind who can only critique a former Prime Minister based on his appearance. However, from what I remember when he did change his mind on the GST, he took it to the electorate and Australia voted them back in.

Everyone of these protesters today is merely asking the same thing of Gillard. A minority Government should not have a mandate to reform such a big chunk of the economy like this, especially when it was not on the table before the election last year. This should be decided on a topic, it’s how Democracy does work and this is logic.

Excuse that last sentence, why this site doesn’t have an edit button, I do not know. But it was meant to have read; This should be decided on an Election etc.. etc…

For all the fizzle, I’d like to acknowledge that several of those truckies travelled many thousands of kms to get here. I’d rather see someone putting in a huge effort on the “wrong” side of politics – (to much derision in Parliament from Wayne Swan and an idiot grin from Peter Garrett) – than a totally one-sided political debate. And I thinking putting the boot in is pretty unnecessary!

Person A was crap, then responding that Person B was crap – we could go around in circles all day.

Isn’t the point then that they’re all crap, and we deserve better in general?

I guess this is why it’s all going downhill..

The real question is not whether Julia blatantly lied, but what would we have got from a liberal/independant/greens government? I bet some kind of carbon tax would have been pushed in exchange for some boat smuggler fear and paranoia legislation…. or better still, no legislation passed at all and a double dissolution election called 6 months later which possibly would end in another stalemate because the political parties just don’t get it.

You seemed to have missed my point. The sign on the truck shows that the driver is campaigning for democracy by protesting against a Government formed by democratic process. The resulting mind-blowing force almost caused me to spill my skinny chai latte.

And the future as you would have it doesn’t look like it would be any better under Tony (Howard) Abbot. He himself has said that you should never take anything he says seriously. He learned from the master.

I was really hoping that you’d book a slot at the rally for the presentation ceremony, but this will have to do I suppose.
