Whilst surfing the local social media outlets today I noticed a great article published in The New York Times titled ’36 Hours in Canberra, Australia’.

If your interested in a New Yorkers view on the nations Capital, here is the link >

I believe this article isn’t advertorial the same way I believe Sydney Weekender isn’t advertorial.

Um they will have commissioned it. Note that the writer advertises two hotels, the Hyatt and Hotel Hotel. Seriously, did she change hotels after one night? Nope – unless she was being paid to stay in them.
The New York Times should have disclosed that this item was advertorial.

What garbage – ’36 Hours’ is an ongoing segment (see http://topics.nytimes.com/top/features/travel/columns/36_hours/index.html?ref=travel) and each article lists 2 hotels.

It just happens that these are Canberra’s best.

Or that this ongoing column advertises two hotels as paid advertorial in each article – two hotels being what they can get away with in “36 hours”.

A few errors need to be highlighted.
Bimberi Peak is 1913 metres but only half of it is the ACT as it is on the common border of NSW/ACT.
So the highest mountain solely in the ACT is Mt. Gingera (1848 metres).
The 2 Japenese midget submarines were salvaged immediately after they were sunk in Sydney Harbour; not “recently”.
When Gillard’s confected “viral smackdown of Tony Abbott” occurred, Abbott was Opposition Leader and Gillard was Prime Minister. I believe the correspondent has deliberately omitted this.
Has anyone calculated how much Ms Pearse’s 36 hours in Canberra would cost a real person? Best we don’t go there as it would confirm Canberra is the most expensive tourist destination in Australia.

What a great article. Our local tourism folks could do worse than to use it.

and Silo isn’t open on Sundays!

Great article.

I’ve been wondering, though, why on Earth would anyone include the words “Green Grout” in the title of a restaurant though ? Makes me want to reach for the Domestos.

Fantastic article, except for the bit about Asian food.

Canberra’s affordable Asian restaurants (i.e. not Wild Duck) are abysmal compared to Sydney’s.

For a start, there is simply no decent Pad Thai in this whole city. In Newtown, Pad Thai costs $6, here it’s $16!

Not a bad article, ought to be pinched by the tourist bureau and massaged to a tourist brochure
