Meanwhile over on Facebook CanMeme’s had this to say:

The top pic was taken by WJ Mildenhall in the late 1920s in almost exactly the same spot as my pic taken during my lunch break today.

That’d never happen nowadays – all the guys with shovels are actually working.

And where are the witches hats and hi-vis vests in the 1920s image????

I can’t help but wonder how much easier it would have been for them if they hadn’t been working around that new granite statue – if Arts ACT had just waited until after the park redevelopment before installing it?
Left hand – right hand…

I agree. There needs to be better coordination.

Dude, do you even know anything at all about this project or are you just being negative for the sake of being negative?

Dude, did you bother to read his next post at #5 giving more detail regarding project coordination? Or are you just being negative for the sake of being negative?

The most obvious difference is that back in the twenties they had sufficient workers to complete the job within a reasonable period of time unlike 2012!

I was wondering about that. One evening I see the unveiling on the news, walk past it the next day, and then they’re ripping the place apart.

A little bit like painting your new house after moving the one of a kind, antiques furniture in.

Yup – Municipal Services 101.
The sort of thing that used to get me so frustrated that ended up with me volunteering for GCC – the only alternative was to keep replacing expensive TVs from things being thrown at them… 🙂

This is why through the Belconnen Community Council I had been calling for a renewed Belconnen Town Centre Master Plan. It’s common sense to coordinate projects, as those who are involved in community consultation (such as Al and myself) know all too well.
