In December we directed your attention to the National Capital Authority’s consultation on the pedestrian crossing at Bowen Place whereby lake loopers are forced to dice with death.
Today the NCA informs us that the consultation is going well with the public being clear in the desire for a bridge.
“We are just over half way through the 10 week consultation process. Already, we have received around 250 comments on our online discussion boards.
“There has been overwhelming support online for the footbridge option. Of the 218 people that have voted in the online poll, 97.2 percent favour a footbridge as the preferred option.
“We will need to wait until all the submissions have been received, but early indications suggest the footbridge is likely to be selected for further evaluation.
“Bowen Place falls within the Parliament House Vista, which is on the Commonwealth Heritage List. This means the NCA has a legal obligation to consider the impact on heritage values.
“Based on community views to date, we’ll be looking for a clever design that not only improves safety at the crossing, but also meets heritage obligations,” said Mr Rake.
Submissions close on 25 February.
