ACT Policing has arrested a 28-year-old man following an aggravated robbery at the 5 Star Supermarket in Theodore last night (9 January).
Around 7.40pm a man entered the supermarket wearing a pillowcase over his head and carrying a knife. The man threatened the owner of the store with the knife, demanding money and cigarettes.
The owner complied with the demands and the man ran from the store. The owner has followed the offender on foot and witnessed the man getting into a vehicle. He obtained the registration number of the vehicle which he provided to police.
About 9pm ACT Criminal Investigations conducted a traffic stop at Newcastle Street, Fyshwick after sighting a vehicle matching the description.
The driver was arrested and taken to City Police Station where he was charged with Aggravated Robbery and Posses Prohibited Substance.
The man is currently in the ACT Watch House and is expected to face the ACT Magistrates Court today.
