The pilot died?

A national paper publisher has a interactive database of federal politicians gifts and hospitality register. Local MP Gai Brodtmann has the following listing:

2011
Origin: Melbourne; Dest: Canberra; Upgrade: economy > business; Travel Date: 2011-02-20; Details: Personal travel from Melbourne to Canberra in return from a wedding on 20/2/11. The pilot on the booked economy flight died so the flight was cancelled. I was upgraded to business to fit on the subsequent flight

Apparently the pilot died. Really? Is that what Qantas told the passengers and that is why the upgrade was offered? And was this fact necessary to justify the upgrade for the register?

Well at least it didn’t happen in flight.

Yes a bit of luck that cause if it had then they would have been up there all day as there would of been nobody to land it. lol

And she would not have experienced the upgrade.

lol

It just sounds like the MP was scrupulous about finding out why the upgrade was offered, being conscious of the requirement to report it on arriving home. I doubt Qantas told all passengers the story unprompted.
