The Canberra Times is reporting on the upcoming royal visit to Canberra by the Queen.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will fly into Canberra Airport just before 9am on Sunday, March 12, to be greeted by ACT Chief Minister Jon Stanhope.

Details of her itinerary are set to be announced by the Prime Minister John Howard today, but The Canberra Times understands the Queen will spend Sunday and Tuesday, March 14, in the territory.

On Monday, March 13, she will be in Sydney for the Commonwealth Day celebrations.

The Stanhope/Regal dynamic is certainly something to look forward to. And isn’t it nice we get more visit than Sydney and Melbourne? Go on, admit it…

Sorry to harp on one subject, but you think you have taxi problems now – try and catch one around 17:30 on Tue 14 March (Her Maj’s dinner)- pretty much every hire car in Canberra is already booked out…….

I remember 1988 with the opening of New Parliament House. One side was “cheering” on the Queen – mostly school children (as I was at the time) and the other side were protestors.

Half my family was on one side and the rest on the other.

I can recall in ’88 being hauled down by the truck load to the footy oval to see her madjesty drive around in a convertable land rover giving us the royale wave – we responded with the two finger salute, how dare she interupt our lunch break!

Let’s all gather to watch the circus that is the modern monarchy.

Ahhh well do I remember the day…it might have been 1966, but I could be wrong. Being marched from St Brigid’s Primary in Davenport St all the way over to Northbourne Ave (it seemed a long way at the time!) to wave our flags at some old duck with a quaint wave in fancy black car.

Felt the first stirrings of Republicanism in my tiny catholic soul!

I’d love to see the reaction from Canberra mums and dads if their kids were forced to do the same when Betty visits this time. 🙂

its the Queen’s English, therefore however she pronouces words must be correct

I just can’t wait for the Queen to mispronounce another suburb so the snooty mob can rejoice in correcting unsuspecting tourists.
